At our carpets shops Belfast we have met with many customers who are unsure of how to remove stains from their carpets and have left it too late. As a result of this, we have created a list of our top tips on how to clean stains and spillages on your carpet to help you get rid of those common stains without the added stress.

Removing Common Carpet Stains and Spillages From Carpet

Spillages happen in an instant, but did you know that they are more easily removed if they are dealt with immediately? On the area of your carpet that has been affected, dap the stain with a dry white cloth or kitchen roll to soak up the liquid. If there are any solid substances in the carpet these can be removed using a spatula, spoon or any other kitchen utensils you have available.

Once you have completed this, you can now use a clean damp cloth to clean the remaining stain. Again, use a dry cloth and use dabbing motions to dry out the area. When you are cleaning stains, we recommend tackling the affected area from the outside and working inwards to prevent the stain from spreading any further.

Removing Dark Coloured Stains and Spillages From Carpet

We have all had the experience of a filled glass of pinot noir or a cup of coffee toppling onto the carpet and spreading the liquid in a forward motion across the freshly clean carpet. 70% of people across the UK have admitted to dragging furniture over their carpet stains. Although these can be a challenging stain to remove, all hope is not lost! If you ever find yourself in this situation be sure to react quickly and remove the stain immediately after it happens. This type of stain will be a lot easier to remove while it is still wet.

You must blot the wine stain with a clean white cloth or dry paper towel to soak up the spill as much as you can. It is very important to use dabbing motions and remember to never scrub as this will prevent the stain from spreading. Once this step is complete you can now use a mixture of water and dishwater detergent to work on removing the stain. Using a sponge apply a bit of the cleaning solution at a time and blot until the stain starts to disappear.

Removing Pet Stains From Carpet

Apply your solution to a clean white cloth or paper towel and blot the stain working from the outside in. After applying the solution use a dry blot to dry the affected area and repeat the process again if necessary until the stain has disappeared.

To remove these you must first let it dry and hoover the footprints until most of the dirt has been picked up. Then using a solution made up of one cup of warm water and a teaspoon of dishwasher liquid, you should dab the area several times until the stain starts to disappear. Once the stain has vanished, dry the area by blotting it with a dry cloth.

Although some stains and spillages may seem like they will never come out of your carpet, this is not the case.
